This is the kind of board where you tell people about the upcoming Ansel Adams exhibition, not where you mention that you'll be exhibiting at the Gold Coast art fair. Notices for your own events are welcome on the Chicago Images list, which is a kind of sister forum for this board.
The reasons for this are fairly simple. Your own event announcements are time sensitive material that must be seen quickly, if they are to be of use to you at all. Drop them on a board and they get buried with all of the other threads. On a list, all eyes are upon the last post made. There's more of a sense of what's up right now, and a lot less wandering.
A board choked with old notices about events already over would be unreadable, any way. People may be talking about those museum shows for years to come but, no offense, odds are that they won't we taking about your shows in quite the same way. Or mine or any of ours. So, we move this material to where it will be up and out of the way about as soon as it ceases to be topical, given the sequential nature of a yahoogroup and its archives. If somebody does want to look for your old post there, he can do a search over there and find it. But most won't, and we configure these things for their convenience.
