Nude images are not allowed on these board, period. No, not even "tastefully done, artistic ones", and by "nudity" I refer to any absence of clothing that might raise issues of the "indecent exposure" ordinances were the photo taken out on the street while the police drove by.
This policy has nothing to do with any offense taken by me to such images. It made necessary both by a desire to stay clearly within the bounds of Proboard's Terms of Service, and by the experience of watching those who genuinely do peddle porn try to wriggle their way into places where they don't belong by declaring what they do to be "art". "Where do you draw the line?", goes the question. We'd rather not deal with it, and so we're putting a zero tolerance policy in place.
This also goes for violent images, scatological ones, anything that might be considered "offensive" or "disgusting" by the bulk of the population, offline. The test is this: would you be willing to show these images to a high school art class, and do you think that the teacher and the school board would both be comfortable with allowing you to do so? If the answer is "no", then post your images to your own website, but please don't post them here, even if the Proboards TOS should ever allow them. Even were the reaction of our provider not an issue, we'd still like this to be a place that people enjoy visiting, even if that means it won't be edgy or subversive enough for some tastes, usually those of people who can't accept that the 1990s are over and that the "modern primitive" thing has worn a little thin for a lot of us.
We appreciate reports of violations of this policy. The spam levels in our inboxes being what it is, the ringmaster's homelist might be the best place to report any problems for now. We hope that people will be mature enough that none will arise, but if not, we'd appreciate hearing about it so that we can act as quickly as possible.
